The Secret to Overcoming Negative Thinking and Self-Doubt

Hello Beautiful Peeps,

One of the most challenging parts of overcoming negative thinking is overcoming self-doubt. Self-doubt happens when your inner voice starts saying “you can’t do it” or “you’re never good enough to do it.” This inner voice criticizes you a lot especially when things aren’t going right for you. And when you’re about ready to get up and get going, it continues to beat you down.

Self-doubt is difficult to overcome if we don’t know how to do it right. The more you fight it, the harder it fights back. It takes a lot of energy and almost becomes impossible to silence. But once you learn to understand your self-doubt, what’s going on and you become more aware of yourself, you’ll be in a good position to use it for your benefit. In short, it’s all about perspective.

We need to realize that we are only dealing with thoughts….and thoughts can be changed.  But because these negative thoughts are ingrained deep in our sub-conscious mind and form our beliefs, we need to not fight these but rather create a new model of how we see ourselves.

We use our will power to build a new model of self belief, rather than fighting the old one.  Eventually the old model dissolves and we have lasting change.

Here are some tips on how you can manage your self-doubt:

Be aware of your doubts and respond to them.

The moment you hear yourself saying “I don’t know,” or “I can’t,” you should be ready to answer yourself back. You can do this by telling yourself “This is not my truth. If I fail, then I’ll have to try again.”

When you do this, you are unconsciously transforming a negative situation into a great opportunity for learning and growth. As a result, you give yourself a chance to try and learn that it is ok to fail.  It doesn’t mean you’re not good enough.  It means there is room for improvement and self development.

Stop listening to negative people.

Negative thinkers always believe everything is not possible. Well, it could be because they don’t know how to set realistic goals so they always fail. You have to stay away from these kinds of people because they will always try to make you feel hopeless.

You need to surround yourself with passionate and supportive individuals, who can serve as an inspiration to you. Listen only to those who can bring out the best in you. You need these people to lift you up whenever you’re feeling down, and they will always try to make you see the beauty of life despite all of your doubts and fears.

Think about your past successes.

When you’re feeling down, it becomes all too easy to think about all the misfortunes in your life. But you can control this habit. Instead of thinking about the bad things that have happened to you in the past, recall the good ones and all your successes. Get a piece of paper and a pen and start writing your achievements. Recall how good it felt when you did something right, and you were acknowledged for it. All these will remind you that you are more than capable of doing good and doing right.

Learn to love and trust yourself more.

You have to be your own best friend and not your own enemy. Thus, you should treat yourself a little better. Any life purpose coaching expert would tell you, you can’t expect anyone to trust and love you if you can’t do it for yourself.  Be gentle on yourself and stop using other people’s standards and beliefs systems as the marker and judge for your life.

Use the Negative thought as a trigger for the positive.

As soon as you hear that negative voice pop in your head, I want you to focus on the complete opposite.  When you first start doing this it takes a little practice, so you may need to pause, close your eyes and see yourself with a positive outcome.  Eventually you’ll be able to do this whilst you are in the middle of any task.  What we are doing is building a new model…a new template of a positive self belief pattern in your life.  We want to focus more on the new positive model, rather than the old limited belief system.

I have been working at this and I have gone as far as shutting off my notification to my news app because I prefer not to see something negative as soon as I wake up in the morning. It’s a start.
